Sports Premium

The PE and sport premium grant is allocated to schools by the government to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE we are able to offer. Schools receive this funding based on the number of pupils on roll in years 1-6.

Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

  • Hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons
  • Support and involve the least active children by running after-school clubs and holiday clubs, e.g. the Change4Life clubs
  • Provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
  • Run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • Run sports activities with other schools

We have decided to use the money to:

  • Provide PE specialists to teach each classes twice a week in order to develop children’s skills
  • Provide carefully matched CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to the needs of the staff and classes
  • Increase PE club provision
  • Purchase Equipment for both PE sessions and break times
  • Resource and train playground and sports leaders to help to  promote active break times

Our aim at Woolaston Primary School is to use this money to continue to provide:

  • Weekly quality and enjoyable PE teaching from well trained staff
  • A wider range of after school clubs allowing children to try something new
  • Opportunities to enter sports events that encourage competition at all levels
  • Active lunchtimes that provide the option of organised activities
  • Continue to enthuse children to live a healthy, active lifestyle well into adulthood
