Sports Day 2021

Mrs Carter and Mrs Madurasinghe, “Discovery” Class Teachers; and Claire Guest and Caron Baker, "Discovery" Class Teaching Assistants.

Welcome to Woolaston School. As experienced teachers across a wide range of year groups, we are now both looking forward  to another year teaching the Reception-aged children in the Discovery Class. We are looking forward to working in a welcoming and nurturing setting, providing many opportunities for child-led activities and outdoor learning. During the year we will plan and develop activities linked to the interests of the children in the class, helping to inspire and encourage the children to learn as we develop their own interests and ideas.

Mrs Carter teaches on Monday to Thursday lunchtime and Mrs Madurasinghe teaches on Thursday afternoon and Friday.

Our PE day is Thursday so children need to come in PE kit on that day.

Reading books will be issued on a Wednesday or Thursday, with 1 or 2 books issued at a time. Finished books are to be returned on Wednesdays only. The books will then be quarantined in school for the required time before they are issued to another child.

If you need to contact us, you can do so through Tapestry or via our class email:

Introducing the Speed Sounds

Magnetic Letters

In this clip, we demonstrate how we use magnetic letters and boards to model and teach the children how to blend the sounds together to read a word.

Speedy Green Words

This clip explains how we continue to teach blending the sounds and reading the words that children are familiar with.

Once the children are beginning to blend their sounds and read more confidently, we move on to reading these 'Ditties'. The children work on reading them with the adults in class, before a copy is sent home for them to share with grown-ups at home, so that they can show off their hard work!

Red Level Books

The children move on to reading books in coloured 'bands' - Red level is the first one. This video demonstrates how we work on the reading activities in class, and explains how you can support your child with their reading at home.
